Burkina Faso forward Bertrand Traore signed a two-year contract with Ajax after the expiration of his contract with La Liga side Villareal, the Dutch giants announced on Monday.

It will be Traore’s second spell at Ajax as he enjoyed a successful one-season loan at Ajax from Chelsea.

During his first spell at Ajax, the international forward scored 13 goals and he helped his side reach the Europa League final before losing to Manchester United 2-0.

Following his previous spell at Ajax, he played for Olympique Lyon, Aston Villa, and Istanbul Başakşehir, before being signed by Spanish club Villarreal CF last winter in a six-month deal.

“We are very happy with Bertrand’s arrival,” Ajax technical director Alex Kroes told the club’s official website on Monday.

“He had multiple options, including staying in Spain, but he consciously chose Ajax.

“In our conversations, it was clear that he is hungry to achieve success here. These are the players we are looking for. Additionally, Bertrand is goal-oriented, fast, and can play in multiple forward positions. Given his experience, he is also a valuable addition to our squad.”

The 29-year-old scored 17 goals with Burkina Faso in 74 appearances.
